On July 7, 10 students in the Camp Promise at St. Peter Church traveled to Raleigh, NC to participate in the Institute for Emerging Issues (IEI) age-appropriate programming for youth and young adults, third grade through early college. The free Summer in the Commons program, in its second year, offers age-based curriculum and activities correlated with civic engagement and future jobs platforms. Provided with data and resources from across the state, student groups will use interactive touch screens to explore the big issues facing our state, while sharing their ideas for how to best tackle the challenges in their communities.
Students also toured the James B. Hunt Library. They visited Pullen Park and enjoyed their lunch before returning to Kinston.
